About Me

LYU Hui is a Ph.D. student in the Graduate School of Life Science at Hokkaido University. Her research mainly focuses on the integration of sensory systems and navigation in insects, especially in Gryllus bimaculatus.

Originally from China, she is known in Japan as “RO-san”, derived from the Japanese pronunciation of her surname.

Throughout her Ph.D. journey, she has demonstrated strong resilience, balancing academic pursuits while navigating significant life events such as bereavement, international marriage, and motherhood.

Outside of academia, she is passionate about gaming and is an enthusiastic PlayStation trophy collector, having achieved platinum trophies in titles such as Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Her favorite Pokemon is Starmie.

Her signature dish is Mapo Tofu.
